A reading from the book

You Are Not the End of Your Story

There is a particular kind of silence that comes after a season falls apart. The phone stops ringing. The plans go quiet. And in that silence a sentence starts to whisper: This is how it ends. This is who you are now. There is nothing after this.

If you have heard that voice, this reading is for you. Because it is lying to you — and the ancient letters can prove it.

The last letter is not a period

The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, and it ends with Tav (ת). If any letter were going to feel like an ending, it would be this one — the last one, the final stop. But in Paleo-Hebrew, Tav was not a period. It was drawn as a cross — a mark, a sign, a covenant. The very last letter of the language God chose is not a full stop. It is a promise.

That matters, because the enemy of your soul wants you to read the end of a chapter as the end of the book. But the God who wrote the alphabet put a cross where you expected a period. In His hands, endings are covenants. What looks like the last word is a sign that Someone has bound Himself to you for what comes next.

He is the first and the last

In Revelation, Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last” — in Hebrew, the Aleph and the Tav. Sit with what that means for your story. He is not only at the beginning, where the hope was fresh and the house was still standing. He is also at the last — at the end you are staring at right now, the one that feels final. Your ending is not outside His reach. It is one of His names.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

Notice who wrote that. Lamentations is a book of a city in ashes — smoke still rising, the worst already happened. And from inside the wreckage the writer says: His mercies are new every morning. Not new when it's fixed. New tomorrow. There is always a tomorrow with God, and He has already stocked it with mercy you have not touched yet.

Friday was not the end either

On the day Jesus died, every follower He had was certain the story was over. They had watched the end with their own eyes. They went home and locked the doors. It was, as far as they could tell, finished.

It was Friday. They did not yet know about Sunday.

That is almost always the shape of it. The people in the story think the end has come, because they are standing inside the part God had not finished writing. Joseph in the pit could not see the palace. Israel at the Red Sea could not see the dry ground. And you, tonight, cannot see the paragraph God is already writing on the other side of this one.

So let the whisper say what it wants. You do not have to believe it. The last letter is a cross, not a period. The One who holds your ending calls Himself the Last. And His mercies — the ones with your name on them — are new in the morning that is already on its way.

You are not the end of your story. You are in the middle of a sentence only He can see the end of. Keep reading. He is not finished.
